The Opportunity
The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Weather of the 21st Century (21st Century Weather for short) is a Federally-funded consortium of 24 partners, led by Monash University in partnership with the University of Melbourne, the University of New South Wales, the Australian National University, and the University of Tasmania. This Centre aims to determine how Australia’s weather is being reshaped by climate change. The Centre aspires to provide Australia with the knowledge, technology, and human capital for robust evidence-based decision-making in response to future weather changes in our region and to harness weather as a resource. The Centre offers a stimulating and supportive environment where researchers, students and professional and technical staff can network, thrive and grow their careers.
We are seeking to appoint a level A Research Fellow in Weather Resources in Climate Models in the School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment, within the Faculty of Science.
In this role, you will work as a team member of the Weather Resources group, investigating aspects of weather resources in climate models with a focus on those variables important for the renewable energy sector, for example, wind, solar radiation and precipitation. The successful candidate will examine how these are simulated in climate models on weather time scales (i.e. sub-daily to daily scale). The relationships between model configurations (e.g. resolution) and these variables will be a key topic for investigation.
As the successful candidate, you will have a doctoral qualification in Atmospheric Science, or a closely related discipline. You will have demonstrated experience working with climate model output or other large datasets. Experience with CMIP6 and downscaled model output is desirable.
If this sounds like the next step in your career, we look forward to hearing from you!
