About our client

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisation, funding world-class breast cancer research towards their vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.

Since their inception in 1994, NBCF has invested over $200M into more than 600 world-class research projects across Australia. In this time, death rates from breast cancer in Australia have improved by over 40%.

They’ve seen remarkable results, but the job’s not done.

At NBCF, they’re determined to create a better tomorrow. They know research matters, and it is central and critical to improving breast cancer outcomes. That’s why they fund the very best breast cancer research in Australia by awarding grants via an open national, competitive, and rigorous peer review process.

With a highly talented and committed team and an enviable reputation, NBCF is well-positioned to achieve even greater outcomes over the coming years and change the future for all those diagnosed with breast cancer.

Role responsibilities

This role will collaborate closely across the Research Investment Team as they deliver on the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s Five-Year Pink Horizon Research Strategy towards its vision of Zero Deaths from Breast Cancer. The focus of the role will be on developing and driving the Pink Sky Grant scheme.

  • Develop and implement the Pink Sky Grant scheme [SO1].
  • End-to-end management of the Pink Horizon Research Pink Skies Grant Scheme – from the grant application process, to the preparation of papers to the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) and Board.
  • Create an equitable/transparent application, peer-review, and disbursement process for grants, keeping a continuous improvement mindset to identify opportunities to streamline and optimise grants processes, operations, and reporting.
  • Collaborate internally to create relevant content/presentations to communicate evidenced-based breast cancer and research content for awareness and education to a variety of internal and external stakeholders – also supporting with Search Engine Optimisation by drafting and reviewing research content for the website.
  • Identify and deliver new ways to engage with the research, consumer, and breast cancer community, and to support NBCFs leading reputation by sourcing opportunities for research papers, reports and conference presentations (assisting with presenting and delivering research papers and reports when called on).
  • Support with ad hoc duties across the broader team, helping to manage research operations, review funding agreements, prepare papers and agendas, and more.

Essential Requirements

You will thrive in a highly collaborative and engaged team, and be passionate about helping NBCF achieve their vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer. You will have the ability to handle competing priorities without losing attention to detail and have an open and transparent communication style.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or a related discipline (a PhD and/or a Masters’ degree in cancer research or a related field will be highly regarded).
  • Previous experience in grant administration/grant management.
  • Experience with the medical research funding landscape in Australia, as well as breast cancer or other oncology-related research disciplines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal – be able to interpret and communicate key developments and trends in breast cancer research, and be able to distil complex information into lay terms.
  • Experience in policy development and engagement with government stakeholders.
  • High level computer literacy and experience working with databases and online platforms.
