The Kevin Xu Initiative (KXI) on Science, Technology, and Global Development supports research on emerging policy challenges at the intersection of science, technology, and global development. Technological progress is transforming our ability to implement and measure novel policy innovations at scale. KXI supports policy-relevant research (including both empirical and theoretical studies) that impact communities in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). KXI is led by Prof Oeindrila Dube (Faculty Director) and Dr. Abhilash Mishra (Founding Director).

Job Summary
 

The Research Manager, Associate Director position at KXI will manage several research projects in technology and global development. The Research Manager is responsible for managing the overall project, including data collection, data security, data analysis, and logistical support, as well as implementing partner and funder relationships. S/he supervises project teams of Research Professionals, works closely with Lead Researchers and is expected to meet with and regularly present to implementing partners and project donors. This role might need substantial travel to countries where KXI has active research projects.
This role has been granted funding for a two-year period.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all aspects of the research projects are being conducted effectively and on time. This will largely be done through managing the research staff, but direct support on research projects may also be needed.

  • Ensures research support staff (RAs) are working effectively on their projects.

  • Ensures sufficient research support is provided to all project leads through regular meetings and involvement in project planning and timelines.

  • Communicates needs, requests, and complaints from RAs/Predocs to the Executive Director promptly.

  • Develops policy and outreach materials to support further project development and scaling.

  • Applies research principles and relevant subject matter knowledge relevant to administer a research project. With a moderate level of direction, manages lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan.

  • Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects. Conducts literature reviews and helps write reports and manuscripts. Ensures project compliance with different policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.

  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.


Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • MBA or degree in a STEM field.

Experience:

  • Experience with research projects and social sciences.
