About the Role
This post sits in the Doctoral College as part of the Directorate of Research. The role will be involved in developing and delivery of strategy for Doctoral Training Partnerships and Centres for Doctoral Training (DTP/CDTs) and other funded studentship opportunities in relation to 2000 postgraduate researchers across QMUL. The PGR Research Manager will
use their specialist skills in building and developing grant applications for funding to deliver this.
You will be the lead contact for all DTP/CDT matters for the Doctoral College supported by professional services staff members currently engaged in DTP/CDTs to enable data analysis and production of management information to assess achievements against QMUL strategies. You will also work alongside a pool of research staff and faculty research managers. You will be responsible for supporting and enabling strategic developments such as submission of grant proposals, research sandpits and horizon scanning effective grant management.
About You
Candidates are expected to have:
- A good Honors degree or equivalent international qualification, or equivalent professional experience Experience/Knowledge. A project management qualification is highly desirable.
- Extensive experience of working in a similar role within HEI or another organisation in research grant administration and/or impact and ideally in dealing with funding bodies and sponsors in relation to research.
- Experience of advising on funding strategies.
- Experience of developing efficient and effective processes and practice to facilitate bid development and proposal preparation.
- Experience of managing a team, staff development, talent and performance management.
- Thorough understanding of funding landscape available for doctoral researchers and supervisors.
- Understanding of working within research governance processes and an understanding of the UK research governance framework, legislation and regulations
- Considerable experience in advising on or writing research bids
- Project management experience – e.g. dealing with large funding calls.
- In-depth knowledge of all aspects of research grants administration.
- Experience of planning and monitoring research fund budgets
- Experience of successful networking, building, maintaining and utilising professional contacts.
