Research Officer

This position will be hired at the One Health Laboratory, icddr,b. The One Health Laboratory conducts research, provides support to projects and training. They work on both human, animal, environmental pathogens The laboratory works with relevant national and international organizations to provide research associated technical support and capacity building. The laboratory also works with private pharmaceutical companies to provide technical support for capacity building.

Position Description:

The Research Officer reporting to the Principal Investigator will be responsible for organizing and conducting laboratory tests and analyses at the One Health Laboratory with the objective of conducting high-quality laboratory research within the guidelines of the research protocols and organizational values and guidelines.

• Prepare weekly work plan for the laboratory works of the project;
• Support team to facilitate lab activities;
• Process and store biological specimens from enrolled patients and monitor proper storage at refrigerator;
• Carry out PCR, real-time RT-PCR/tissue culture-based viral detection, and typing; Resolve lab test issues, and raise escalations to supervisor, if required;
• Monitor and track consumption of resources;
• Analyze database and prepare a preliminary analysis to look for new information for publication and to identify new research ideas;
• Perform ELISA and Luminex based immune assay;Perform and carry out laboratory assays or research-based assigned duties;
• Create test report and share with supervisor;
• Revise analysis as per guidance of supervisor and discussions with other team members;
• Identify new research ideas;
• Write sections of the manuscript as per the advice of supervisor;
• Present intellectual capital developed as a result of research at external platforms such as conferences and seminars etc. for continuous dissemination of research findings to generate new knowledge and disseminate among relevant stakeholders;
• Take opportunities to develop new skills and capability on diverse technical projects and balance with developing scientific expertise;
• Troubleshoot common problems with experiments to develop and enhance the capability of research;
• Maintain safety procedures in the laboratory with appropriate knowledge of handling infectious biological agents;
• Handle and dispose of bio-hazardous laboratory reagents and chemicals to maintain good laboratory practice and a safe working environment;
• Train junior staff and get refresher training on bio-safety;
• Update the chemicals and media inventory regularly for smooth functioning of the Lab.

 Required qualifications and experience:

• Masters in Microbiology/Molecular Biology/ Genetic Engineering with an excellent academic record. Must have thesis in relevant research field/technology.
• 3 years of Lab research experience in the relevant field.
