About the Role
Melbourne Social Equity Institute is seeking an enthusiastic, proactive and details-oriented Research Officer to join our Directorate team. Working as part of a small team, this role will provide research support for our external research partnerships and commissioned research, as well as supporting internal projects undertaken as part of our strategic priorities.

This role will suit someone with an interest in a research and/or research management career in the areas of social equity, social policy or social change. The successful applicant will have opportunities for professional growth and development aligned with their interests and the priorities of the Institute. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting preparation of project proposals and ethics applications
  • Providing administrative and secretariat support for cross-sector research activities
  • Conducting literature reviews and evidence scans in support of contracted research activities

Who We Are Looking For
You should demonstrate experience in conducting literature reviews and/or evidence scans to support applied or academic research. Additionally, showcase experience in undertaking or supporting applied social science research, including coordinating ethics applications and contributing to research design and data collection. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse sectors, organizations, and communities. Strong written communication skills are crucial, with the ability to produce various written outputs such as infographics, academic papers, presentations, and policy reports. Furthermore, excellent attention to detail in the conduct of administrative and research tasks is necessary.

You will also have:

  • An honours or masters by research degree in a cognate discipline, including: policy studies; sociology; public health; or management
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite, web-based applications, file sharing and collaboration tools
  • Ability to work flexibly in a small team with competing and sometimes changing priorities
