Research Officer Natural Resources Management

CIFOR-ICRAF implements several projects related to natural resource management in Cameroon and in Central Africa. To carry out all these projects, CIFOR-ICRAF must have a sufficient staff in quantity and quality composed of high-level scientists internationally recruited, and local researchers and research assistants. We are therefore looking for a research officer who will assist CIFOR-ICRAF research team in project management, research design, data collection and analysis and reporting of research activities.
Duties and responsibilities:
Project management:
  • Assist CIFOR-ICRAF research team in the design, implementation, analysis and reporting of research activities in the various projects.
Research design, data collection and analysis:
  • Assist CIFOR-ICRAF research team in the design, implementation, analysis and reporting of research activities in the various projects; Support and follow up the establishment of a monitoring and evaluation system and plan for SWM project, based on international best practices in monitoring and evaluation approaches in the field of rural development and participatory management of wild meat.
  • Contribute to research design and implementation of study protocols in ecology and commodity chains; Under the OFAC-CE project, contribute to the design of complementary studies on topics identified by stakeholders of biodiversity resources management in central Africa and allocated to CIFOR-ICRAF, provide GIS preliminary expertise to the project as needed; Coordinate the organization of workshops, meetings, and virtual discussions.
Data analysis and publication:
  • In collaboration with other scientists, produce publications, such as technical reports, technical sheets, training manuals, blogs, and journal articles. Contribute to the dissemination of research results by attending meetings and giving project overview; preparing and delivering oral presentation on project issues; and communicating complex or substantive project information provided by or at the direction of the Project Manager.
Finance management:
  • Manage entrusted project resources as needed per CIFOR-ICRAF’s procedures and regulations and assist in ensuring that project financial obligations are met, in accordance with existing procedures.
Resource mobilization:
  • Contribute to proposal writing and fund-raising activities.
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree or higher in forestry or other fields related to natural resources management.
  • At least 3 years of working experience in natural resources management research or development.
  • Strong knowledge of GIS tools and software.
  • Expertise in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis with proven experience conducting semi-structured interviews.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in statistical software.
  • Solid theoretical background in the analysis of rural economies and in the study of the exploitation of forest resources by local populations in       Central Africa.
  • Familiar with the processes of creation and management of community forests and community hunting zones.
  • Basic knowledge on gender issues and gender-sensitive research and project development.
  • Proficiency in English and good working knowledge in French.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Practical experience in organizing and facilitating workshops with partners in urban and rural areas.
  • Publication record as main author or co-author.
