Research & Operations Associate (Contract)
Summary:
Animal Partisan is currently hiring a part-time, remote, contract resource to serve as a Research & Operations Associate supporting our legal advocacy work.
Animal Partisan is a legal advocacy organization dedicated to ending the suffering of animals in slaughterhouses, farms, and laboratories by challenging unlawful conduct in all its forms. Animal Partisan was founded in late 2022 and operates with limited staff and the substantial contributions of dozens of pro bono attorneys and law students. Given the organization’s small footprint, this role is expected to offer meaningful contributions, despite the part-time nature of the position. This role will report to and support Animal Partisan’s Founder/Legal Counsel in a variety of functions.
Role description:
The Research & Operations Associate will perform the following functions:
- Public Records Requests & Research (25-30%)
- Conduct research to identify targets for public records requests (state and federal)
- Draft, submit, and monitor the status of public records requests
- Analyze responses to public records requests, including basic research into reasons for denial and avenues for appeal
- Review and summarize responsive records (including documents, videos, and photographs) received from state and federal government entities
- Factual Research (20-30%)
- Conduct factual research as necessary on a wide variety of issues to support the organization, including researching agriculture and research entities, internal technology issues, operational compliance, fund development opportunities, etc.
- Fund Development (10-15%)
- Maintain and monitor calendar of grant/foundation reporting requirements
- Assist with identifying funding opportunities
- Assist with preparing submissions for grants and foundation requests
- Document Review & Preparation (10-15%)
- Review and proofread various materials including communications and legal filings for clarity, grammar, punctuation, and formatting errors
- Assist with formatting documents as needed, including filings, presentations, etc.
- Operational Compliance (5-10%)
- Maintain and monitor calendar of state and federal government requirements for organizational compliance, including reporting, registration, taxes, etc.
- Assist with drafting and filing required reports to maintain state and federal compliance.
- Empirical Research Studies (5%)
- Review and summarize key findings from empirical research studies to identify key principles for guiding organizational activity
- Intern & Pro Bono Attorney Resource Management (5%)
- Coordinate with interns, law students, and pro bono attorneys to ensure necessary onboarding paperwork is completed and retained
Qualifications:
- Dedicated to the animal rights movement
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Highly organized, including time management, task management, and documentation
- Inquisitive and intellectually curious
- Dependable and consistent
- Possessing strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office products and online research
- Willing to get your hands dirty and take on a variety of tasks
- Capable of writing professionally to a wide range of audiences
- Preferable backgrounds and experiences include but are not limited to: Paralegal, Project Management/Coordination, Process Management, Legal Assistant, Executive Assistant
Hours:
This role is expected to work between 10-12 hours/week. Working hours are flexible so long as some portions are worked at a consistent day/time to facilitate collaboration and communication.
Compensation/Benefits:
This role is entirely remote. This is a contract role and compensation is $30/hour without benefits.
