The Department of Pathology is a founding department of the Stanford School of Medicine and one of the leading departments in the United States. About the Position:

The Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University is seeking an onsite Research Packaging Technician to support the manufacturing facility in the preparation of Oral Immunotherapy products.  The primary duties include the preparation of food flour substances for use in clinical trials, weighing food flours, and labeling flour into individual doses for human consumption according to a batch record system. The facility is located in Mountain View, CA.

The anticipated shift is based on the operational needs and can change at any time with notice.

• Monday-Friday: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with a 30-minute lunch  break

Desired Qualifications:

• Prefer applicants with experience working with food allergy patients, or understanding packaging processes.
• Familiar with QC principles and acceptable methods for complying with the statutory requirements of a manufacturing facility that follows cGMP.
• Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work with a minimum of error, troubleshoot unplanned situations and complete duties with supervision.
• Demonstrated initiative and good judgment.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues and clients and with external organizations.
• Demonstrated commitment to personal responsibility and value for participant safety, shown through communication of safety concerns and the use and promotion of safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.
• Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information (written and verbal) with tact and diplomacy.
• Understanding of cGMP, manufacturing and packaging processes.
• Willingness to learn and follow required training.
• Additional education including college level laboratory or nutrition science courses desired.

Education & Experience (Required):

• Two years of related experience or a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required):

• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures to prioritize tasks.
• Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to apply HIPAA training in all work interactions (verbal and written).
• Ability to work at close proximity and be exposed to biohazards, chemicals or other airborne allergens such as aerosolized food.
• Ability to handle allergens.
• Ability to train others in aspects of work, as requested.

Physical Requirements*:

• Manual dexterity to perform assigned tasks.
• Write by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts.
• Frequently stand/walk, perform seated work, operate special machines and specialized laboratory equipment.
• Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, light fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 90 pounds.
• Rarely help move heavier items (e.g. chairs or lab equipment; packages of supplies).
• Frequently grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand.
• Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
• Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
• Position may require repetitive motion.

Working Conditions:

• Expected to follow all safety requirements and procedures, including wearing appropriate uniform and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required.
• May be required to work overtime, evenings, and weekends, including Holidays.
• May work in the vicinity of animals, chemicals, gasses, biohazards or other hazardous materials.
• Due to the nature of the work, this position will work fully onsite.

The expected pay range for this position is $26.46 to $34.38 per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
Placement in the range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
