This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Moores Cancer Center and remote.

The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 54 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. The Research Program Manager will possess a high degree of knowledge in health disparities and program management, with recognized expertise in specific areas. The incumbent will oversee and manage a large NIH-funded program that includes Research Projects and several Cores across two different institutions, UC San Diego and San Diego State University. They will also be responsible for other initiatives that may include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources. They will problem-solve efforts that frequently requires the analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. The incumbent will function with a high degree of autonomy.

The Research Project Manager will become part of the leadership team in the partnership between San Diego State University and UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, funded by the National Cancer Institute as part of the CPACHE Comprehensive Partnerships to Advance Cancer Health Equity program (cancer.gov/about-nci/organization/crchd/diversity-training/pache). Under general supervision of the Lead Principal Investigator and in coordination with the three additional Principal Investigators (total of 2 from UC San Diego and 2 from San Diego State University), the incumbent will be responsible for providing management and supervision support for the UC San Diego side of the Partnership to ensure the smooth operation of the day-to-day functions of the Administrative Core, including staff supervision, communication and flow of information between Core components, production and distribution of internal and external reports, implementing effective planning and evaluation strategies, communication, and coordination of meetings and Partnership activities. In addition, the Program Manager will assist in the coordination of the Outreach Core, Research Education Core, Planning & Evaluations Core, and TALENT (Transforming fAcuLty dEvelopmeNT for Equity)at UC San Diego.

• Advanced degree in related area and three or more years of relevant experience or equivalent experience/training.

• High level of political acumen, diplomacy, professionalism, and integrity to act appropriately and with sensitivity in a culturally diverse environment.

• Demonstrated ability to independently solve unusual as well as commonplace problems and to provide effective direction and supervision to individuals and groups.

• Experience facilitating communications with a wide range of individuals, including doctoral-level faculty, researchers, and students across a broad range of disciplines and cultures as well as individuals representing community-based organizations. Ability to champion and market the goals of the Partnership inside and outside the two academic institutions.

• Demonstrated experience administering programs, including budgeting, fiscal management, marketing, promotion, program revision, expansion and evaluation. Experience writing clear and concise reports and correspondence.

• Experience in working in areas of health disparities and equity-related programs. Knowledge of research methods, program planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation skills

• Thorough knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices. Demonstrated knowledge of basic management and supervision demonstrating strong leadership skills, providing effective direction and supervision to individuals and small groups.

• Demonstrated knowledge of budget management to include monitoring program goals, priorities, staffing requirements, and expenditures.

• Ability to independently interpret a wide variety of complex policies and procedures integral to the program/project to which the position is assigned.

• Ability to manage budgets, including writing and preparing budget adjustments and justifications.

• Ability to function effectively in a leadership role and project team setting.Demonstrated ability to function independently to identify solutions to complex problems.

• Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to provide effective direction and supervision to individuals and groups. Ability to write well to include clear and concise reports and correspondence. Ability to present information on an individual and group basis. • Knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite; EndNote. Knowledge of website management, design and updates.

• Terminal degree in a related field (PhD, JD, MD, etc.).

• Solid fundraising experience.

• Superior oral, written, presentation and personal communication skills. Ability to clearly and concisely present ideas, concepts and detailed technical information in a multidisciplinary setting, and to funding organizations and representatives as well as community-based organizations and individuals possessing minimal technical backgrounds.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $82,500 – $151,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $39.51 – $72.56

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
