Research Support Associate
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience with ecology, environmental or conservation projects, including project management.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in an ecology or environmental lab or as part of a scientific project, including tracking expenses, data management or curation, and organizing fieldwork logistics. Experience with international research, conservation, and/or educational programming. Experience or interest with mentorship, as a mentor, mentee, or peer mentor. Intermediate or higher-level Spanish (B1/B2). Experience working in a higher education/academic environment, including undergraduate or graduate student work experience. Experience with R (or other data analysis tools) and/or ArcGIS.
Brief Description of Duties:
This position is responsible for working closely with the PI, graduate, and undergraduate students. The successful incumbent will have strong writing skills, as well as excellent collaboration skills. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem-solving. The successful incumbent should be comfortable interacting with individuals at various levels within an institution. They will be comfortable in challenging field environments and conditions.
- Research Support: Provide laboratory and fieldwork support, including expense tracking, data management, and fieldwork logistics. Assist with scheduling laboratory events and outings. Manage fieldwork logistics, including coordinating team availability, securing permits, packing supplies, and post-trip cleanup. Oversee laboratory maintenance, including supply orders, equipment upkeep, and data organization. Communicate data protocols and support PI in maintaining EHS compliance. Assist with IACUC or IRB submissions.
- Data Curation / Analysis: Organizing and archiving project data on portals such as Dryad, conducting geospatial analyses such as mosaicking drone images, generating pilot or preliminary geospatial analyses for grant applications.
- Procurement and Routine Billing: Provides procurement and billing support to the laboratory. Responsible for general lab procurement activities, such as Wolfmart ordering in support of laboratory projects. Assists PI and students with procurement of equipment and supplies from laboratory using Research, State and SBF funds. Coordinates travel arrangements and reimbursements. Manages laboratory expense data entry and records for PI.
- Access Control and Safety: Working with the PI, provides support for laboratory access control and safety. Provides access to labs or offices for maintenance crews to conduct repairs of facilities/utilities, or for sensitive incoming shipments.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
In addition to the employee’s base salary, this position is eligible for $3,087 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
