The Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology at The University of Chicago is consistently ranked among the best specialty nationally by U.S News and World Report. With nearly 30 specialists on staff, our program plays a leading role in the understanding of digestive diseases and in developing innovative and successful treatments for patients. Since forming the nation’s first full-time department of gastroenterology in 1927, our physicians have continually improved treatments for digestive tract and related disorders by combining medical research, education, and patient care at the highest level.

Job Summary
 

A Research Technician position is open in the Li Lab in the Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, Department of Medicine. This technician will participate in biomedical research mainly related to intestinal biology or immune regulation. This person will mostly perform wet lab bench work and should be able to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in research programs to study regulation of inflammatory response and intestine homeostasis.

  • In charge of complex mouse breeding involving generation of multiple lines of transgenic and knockout mice.

  • Perform cell and molecular biology experiments to investigate aspects of immune regulation in a number of mouse genetic models.

  • Participate in laboratory maintenance and laboratory organization.

  • Provide instruction and training to new laboratory personnel and students.

  • Participate in weekly lab meetings and present research data.

  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.

  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.

  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.


Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or related field.

Experience:

  • Experience in mouse studies or in immunological, cell and molecular biological research.

Preferred Competencies

  • Knowledge in relevant scientific field.

  • Knowledge of research techniques or methods.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Organizational skills.

  • Verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
