Overview

About the Role

The research technician will support the project’s focus on osteoarthritis through experimental work, including biochemical, molecular biology, and histological analyses. Ample opportunities for training and career development at WHRI will be provided, including authorship on publications and participation in meetings and conferences.

About You

If you’re passionate about scientific research and developing new therapeutic approaches for chronic diseases like osteoarthritis, we want to hear from you. A BSc in a scientific discipline, preferably pharmacology, and experience in histology, cell and molecular biology are desired. Animal experimentation experience, particularly in osteoarthritis, is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork are essential.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project

The William Harvey Research Institute is a world-leading research centre, with a vibrant, multidisciplinary scientific environment devoted to therapeutic innovation in cardiovascular, endocrine, and inflammatory diseases. With over 600 staff members, it consists of 8 Research Centres, 7 based at Charterhouse Square.

The Centre for Biochemical Pharmacology is formed by approximately 40 members including 12 Academic staff and 21 Research staff. The Centre is also home to 20 PhD students and has broad-ranging research interests covering the mechanisms of inflammation and resolution, tolerance, innate & adaptive immunity.

Funded by the Medical Research Council, you will join a close-knit team focused on uncovering the molecular mechanisms driving cartilage repair and regeneration in osteoarthritis. Our goal is to develop innovative molecular therapies promoting this process, focusing on alpha-1-antitrypsin, a protein endowed with anti-inflammatory and tissue-regenerative properties. Specifically, we will elucidate how alpha-1-antitrypsin affects chondrocyte phenotype to enhance cartilage repair. Beyond the scientific pursuit, our group is a friendly community brimming with expertise in animal models, molecular and cell biology. We are committed to teamwork and support. We believe in fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment where every member thrives, and collaboration flourishes. Join us to drive breakthroughs together!
