Job Description

The Biodesign Center for Personalized Diagnostics is searching for a Research Technician who will work on research projects related to oncolytic myxoma virus cellular tropism in cancer cells. The successful candidate will perform a variety of lab experiments described below, including day-to-day duties that are typical for a virology/molecular biology lab (preparing media and solutions, autoclaving biohazardous waste materials, sterilizing reagents, etc.). Responsibilities also include assisting the principal investigator with maintaining records; developing experimental protocols; performing literature searches; supervising students; writing papers and manuscripts for publication; and other duties assigned by the principal investigator.

Salary Range

$20.40 – $25.50 per hour; DOE

Essential Duties

• Virus stock preparation
• Tissue culture maintenance and studies
• Different cellular assays, including cell death and viability
• DNA, RNA and protein isolation and preparation
• Protein expression and purification
• Sample preparation for microscopy
• Standard cellular, molecular, and biochemical techniques
• Animal handling
• Data analysis and data interpretation
• Daily maintenance of the laboratory
• Ability to independently follow detailed instructions and lab procedures.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

• Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline.
• Demonstrated knowledge of modern research methods, data collection, and analyses.
• Evidence of effective communication skills.
• Experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
• Evidence of effective organizational skills.

Working Environment

• Regular activities require ability to manage multiple tasks at one time, to be able to prioritize tasks; to manage conflict: to interact in a team environment: and to communicate through verbal and written work.  
• Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting and laboratory subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating; a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distance to perform work.  
• Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds. 
• Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and / or are subject to resolution of conflicts.  
• Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. 
• May be required to wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes and respirator. 
• This position works with animals

• Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens
