Position Summary
Seeking a motivated Research Technician to assist with ongoing research in Dr. Qin Liu’s lab. The successful candidate will be passionate about understanding the neural components of itch, pain, allergy, and respiratory infections and will become an integral part of a highly collaborative team at the WashU Pain Center.
Assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Hands-on work with mice: manage breeding and genotyping, keep accurate records of animal activities, and assist in small animal procedures as needed.
- Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintains lab compliance with established protocols and maintains required documentation of lab activity, inventory, and conditions.
- Assists in general lab upkeep, cleaning, maintenance, reagent procurement, and compliance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in mouse genetics, colony management, and genotyping.
- Previous experience in a wet lab, with deep understanding of laboratory safety.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
- Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
- Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and up to 1 year of experience in a laboratory setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years.

Salary Range
$16.59 – $25.92 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
