Research Technician – Yuan Lab

Research Technician

The Jason Yuan laboratory is seeking a motivated and experienced Research Technician to join our team. The position will perform various tasks designed to support impactful research in the Yuan lab including experiments and assays. The research technician will perform, under supervision, a variety of routine scientific tasks, and must be well organized and possess excellent communication skills. The position will require that the individual prepare test specimens superior laboratory experience is a plus and they will be asked to perform a limited number of non-repetitive procedures.

Job duties will include but are not limited to:

• Organizing supplies, materials or equipment and setting-up equipment for laboratory experiments or demonstrations; may perform minor equipment maintenance. Operating laboratory and experimental equipment such as microscopes, fluorescent microscopes, centrifuges, analytical balances, cell incubators, cell/tissue storage tank; making minor repairs and makes arrangements for major repairs to be performed.
• Collecting and maintaining data and/or specimens using basic laboratory techniques.
• Aiding investigator or higher level technician with routine preliminary data analyses; maintaining research data in laboratory notebook, inputting data into computer software (RedCap) writing summary reports and reports findings to investigator. Presenting of the results by using PowerPoint.
• Cleaning glassware and other laboratory equipment or materials using appropriate standards; keeping laboratory area clean.
• Attending regular laboratory meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Commensurate with experience.

A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Excellent written, oral communication and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to use software for statistics such as EXCEL, SigmaPlot, GraphPad, Prism, RedCap.
• Excellent basic laboratory techniques including cell preparation, PCR & Western blots.
• Knowledge of research and laboratory equipment appropriate to the area of the assignment.
