Duration of contract:  1 Month (renewable) – 2024

Duty Station:              East and West Mosul, and Al-Hamdaniya

 

 

Brief description of the organization

Al Mesalla for Human Resources Development is a non-governmental organization established in 2004 and registered in Baghdad and Erbil with headquarters located in Erbil. The organization is working at disseminating a culture of human rights and peacebuilding in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The organization is currently working along 3 programs: A non-violence and peacebuilding program developing peace capacities within the community; a woman and Gender program empowering women to take an active role in the community and a Human Rights Program which focuses especially on enhancing freedom of expression. Since June 2014, Al-Mesalla developed services for the growing refugee and displaced community settling in the Kurdish Region of Iraq by participating in distributing emergency support and establishing empowerment and livelihood programs for displaced women in particular.

 

Job Description

 

  • The Al-Mesalla researcher will conduct a field study survey in the peace school labs. the field study survey will depend on the content of the peace curriculum.
  • This field study should contain the ideas and identify the importance of these labs, and thus identify the gaps in the schools in the nearby areas. However, the focus will be on targeted locations
  • Submit the research before ending of April 2024.
  • Submit the recommendation before/when/after the data collection.
  • The primary function of the researcher is to support the whole project and have ideas.
  • Provide consultation during the period of the project.

 

 Key Responsibilities

Conduct a field study of the school labs and needs groups.

Description: The Al-Mesalla will conduct a field study in the Ninawah West and East Mosul and Al-Hamdaniya district, on the groups most in need of the application of peace education. The project team will hire a specialized researcher to

Conduct the field study. This field study will help the project team and the Department of Education in Nineveh to identify the most conflict-sensitive areas, and thus identify the good side of these schools’ labs in the nearby areas. However, the focus will be on targeting 2-shift schools in these areas.

 

 

Reporting

  • Submit the research and the recommendation after completing the research.
  • Collect data and work on writing quantitative and qualitative reports and submit them to the project manager in a timely manner.
  • Provide high-quality activity and training reports to the project manager.
  • Proven knowledge of data collection methods.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and statistical applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to write high-level.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • University degree preferably in relevant subjects (Law, Political/Social Science, Education, Economics, Development, International Relations, etc.).
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in development/humanitarian.
  • At least 1 year of proven experience as a researcher.
  • Knowledge of standards and literature in human and environmental rights, policy-making, humanitarian and development principles, accountability, governance, advocacy, and campaigning;
  • Proven capacities to plan activities successfully targeting results and objectives – Previous experience working under pressure and/or in a hardship duty station
  • Team working skills and proactive attitude
  • Excellent computer literacy skills Desirable requirements:
  • Required Basic oral and written English
  • Written and spoken Arabic and the Kurdish language is an assets.
  • Previous experience in peacebuilding, social cohesion, and conflict prevention.
