About IRRI

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Job Purpose
The SIRS Department has just created the Sustainable Soils unit with few soil science experts. Ensuring the successful implementation of IRRI projects on expanding development and upgrading of decision tools with strong scientific foundation to provide agronomic and science-based solution is important. However, the activities involved requires additional human resources to implement field trials, collect, validate, process, and analyze research data, ensuring that the projects reach their milestones and make a meaningful impact on the intended beneficiaries.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.
Roles and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of Project Manager, perform data collection, data validation, and quality checks, execute data cleaning, manage data, conduct analysis, provide support to checking of decision tools, provide support for report writing and other project-related documentation
Play a key role in coordinating and overseeing field-level data collection efforts
Support in organizing and delivering training sessions related to data collection, management, and analysis
Engage in effective communication with internal partners and collaborators to streamline data collection and validation planning
Offer valuable insights into strategic planning and tools that enhance data collection, management, and analysis
Foster close collaboration with research technicians and co-researchers to ensure the seamless execution of field trials, data collection and validation
Actively coordinate with fellow IRRI staff and external collaborators in the facilitation of training programs related to implementation of field trials, data collection, management, and analysis
Support the field trial activities
Contribute to data collection, validation, management, and analysis
Contribute to the development of manuscripts for reports, publications, and presentations or posters for national and international conferences
Maintain the organization of collected data, analysis results, and manuscripts
Timely prepare and submit research outputs to Project Manager
Assist in the development of decision logic under the supervision of Assistant Scientist
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in [soil science, crop science, or related field] Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in [research in soil science or crop production]
Skills Required
Mandatory
Has proven technical knowledge in conducting research experiments, has knowledge of data management and quality control in the use of MS Excel, has strong skills of statistical data analyses and report writing, has good oral and written communication skills, demonstrates ability for accuracy and attention to detail, has good presentation skills, is team player, and is able to work independently
Preferred
Self motivation, experience in R software or any other softwares for environment for statistical computing
