Ultimate result of service: finalized research products and tools that inform UN KSA engagement and FII9, including analytic frameworks and public-facing materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

Background The UN Resident Coordinator Office in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is commissioning research on how sovereign wealth funds can accelerate SDG progress. This assignment produces the flagship paper, Catalysts for Change, and a full draft panel package for FII9. The work draws on your existing prospectus, outline, and panel concept, and will be guided by the Leave No One Behind principle. Duties and responsibilities Under the RCO Head of Office and RCO Economist, the consultant will: • Build the literature base and research matrix on SWFs and SDGs, including mandate typologies, instruments, standards, and partnerships. • Develop a comparative case compendium for GPFG, NZ Super, Temasek, Mubadala, and PIF in the KSA context; extract lessons and success criteria that can be publicly quoted. • Propose a concise common metric set mapped to SDG impact standards, suitable for SWF reporting within 12 months; include an instrument-by-mandate matrix. • Draft the paper end-to-end, introduction to policy recommendations, with tables and annexes per the agreed structure. • Produce a full draft panel package for FII9: run-of-show for 60 to 75 minutes, moderator brief with targeted prompts, intended outcomes, commitment options, and a short announcement script for a Sovereign SDG Investment Roadmap. • Prepare visual assets: 8 to 12 slide deck, one-page Roadmap explainer, speaker prep notes, and a two-page executive summary. • Coordinate inputs and reviews with UN KSA counterparts and external experts as needed; incorporate feedback to final.

 

Qualifications/special skills

Enrolled in or graduated from a Masters or Higher degree in social sciences, economics, public health, law or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 1 years of professional work experience in research assistance is required.

 

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required and knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
