We are looking for a highly organised and motivated individual, with good people skills and
extensive experience in nature conservation, to join our team as Reserves Manager.
About This Role
Now is a crucial time in Durham Wildlife Trust’s development and our land holding is the
foundation on which future success will be built. Over the last five years we have grown
significantly, doubling the area of land managed for nature’s recovery. That increased effort
needs to be maintained so the Trust can continue to grow and respond with increasing urgency to
the ecological and climate emergencies.
The Reserves Manager role has been created to support management of our existing estate
and our ambitions for further growth. As well as acting as custodian of some of the rarest
habitats found in the UK, whether magnesian limestone SSSIs and coastal gill woodlands or North
Pennine hay meadows, Durham Wildlife Trust is also leading efforts across the North of England
on land management for Nutrient Neutrality and Biodiversity Net Gain.
To successfully deliver its Strategy 2030 the Trust must maximise the environmental,
social and economic benefits its landholding can provide. The Reserves Manager will play a
central role in delivering that ambition by leading an experienced officer team backed by dedicated volunteers.
Durham Wildlife Trust is looking for an individual with the habitat management knowledge and
skills needed to ensure that our land is managed to the highest possible standards. In
addition, the successful candidate will share our enthusiasm to see 1 in 4 people meaningfully
engaged in delivering nature’s recovery and embrace the opportunities now available to create
new income streams from the management of the charity’s estate.
Working for Durham Wildlife Trust
Durham Wildlife Trust is the leading organisation in environmental land management, nature
conservation and rewilding in our region because of its dedicated staff.
Successful candidates will be joining our passionate and talented team of ecologists,
educators, influencers, fundraisers and skilled practical conservation officers and
managers. To address the significant challenges faced by nature we need to recruit and retain
committed and talented people, and support them to develop further.
Central to the Durham Wildlife Trust staff journey is the ethos of personal and professional
development. We offer a fun and stimulating working environment, with a competitive salary,
holidays and benefits package –
Durham Wildlife Trust is an inspiring and energetic place to develop your career and we welcome
applications from anyone who wants a role that makes a difference. We are creating a work
environment that’s inclusive as well as diverse – where all our people can be themselves. Every
idea, insight and perspective is valued.
