SCOPE OF WORK: The Resettlement Case Management Team provides trauma-informed services to refugees and other qualified immigrants to support a positive resettlement experience and the achievement of client self-sufficiency. The Team works closely with clients, IRC staff, and external parties to develop service and/or self-sufficiency plans to meet individual client needs and preferences utilizing a broad range of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services and resources in accordance with client eligibility and program requirements. The Intern will work with the team to provide ongoing assistance to refugee clients as part of holistic case management. The intern will assist in the reception of newly arrived refugees and coordination of medical services and public benefits and enrollment in other services for clients according to their service plan, as well as working to ensure that data entry is completed in a timely manner. Additionally, the intern will also research potential community resources and provide referrals to new and existing partners within the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with field work including but not limited to: airport pickup, housing setup, school enrollment, delivery of household items, application for documents including social security cards, obtaining clients signatures and assistance with medical non-emergency services as needed.
  • Support Caseworkers to ensure clients have living essentials such as housing, food, medical care, and access to transportation, and are oriented to their new environment.
  • Conduct intake services with clients to assess needs. Provide individualized support through direct services, referrals, and advocacy.
  • Input clients’ information in database(s) and assist with tracking and reporting as needed.
  • Use personal, insured vehicle to travel as needed throughout the service delivery area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Cultural competency & consideration.
  • Excellent written & verbal skills.
  • Proficient with Excel & other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Self-starter, ability to complete projects with minimal supervision.
  • Access to reliable, insured vehicle.
  • Interest in social work, or international studies preferred, but not required.
  • Computer literacy, data base experience preferred.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Empathy and open mindedness across-cultural environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Multilingual capacity is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Internship requires 10- 15 hours a week for a 3-month minimum. Can only be completed Monday – Friday 9- 5 pm.

This position is unpaid. This position reports to the Resettlement Supervisor
