Who we are:

The British Embassy in Copenhagen is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for a Residence and Events Assistant.

What will you be expected to achieve?

Events

  • Understand and help deliver the successful high level of service for all requirements relating to official business entertainment at the Residence and Embassy – from afternoon tea, formal and informal breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, to large receptions, buffet parties, seminars and workshops.
  • Assist the Head Chef in the kitchen with basic food preparation (peeling, chopping vegetables, etc.) and shopping for produce (vehicle available).
  • Prepare food menus, guest name plates and seating plans when required. Support the team with washing and cleaning all tableware after events.
  • Prepare for and support the delivery of events outside the Residence.

Guests

  • You should be attentive and cater to the needs of the Ambassador, her family, and all guests at the Residence, whether this be for an event or overnight guests; receiving guests, providing service of refreshments and breakfast etc., also catering to ad-hoc requests e.g. shirt pressing.

Housekeeping

  • Provide routine and high-quality cleaning of the function areas in the Residence, support with washing and ironing table linen and a willingness to help where it is needed.
  • Work with the outsourced cleaning company to maintain appearance and cleanliness of guest rooms and the Ambassador’s residence

General

  • Liaise and communicate effectively with the team, the Ambassador, and her family, so that together we showcase British excellence whilst delivering a confident and quality service to the Ambassador and her guests.
  • You will be a crucial member of the team and expected to be a strong team player, contributing to a high standard of service delivery on a daily basis. You will report directly to Head of Ambassador’s Office.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Fluency at C1 level in English, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*).
  • Previous relevant working experience in an international standard hotel, diplomatic residence or equivalent.
  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to drive as part of duties.
  • Willing to help with cleaning and housekeeping duties when required.
  • Ability to demonstrate consistently high standards of service, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well within a team, exercise discretion and initiative.
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate adaptability working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work flexibly in respect of working hours (including evenings and occasional weekends) and duties.
  • Willingness to take on new responsibilities as necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to treat others with respect and courtesy.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel for everyday administrative and coordination tasks.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • A working knowledge of Danish (A2/B1 CEFR level) would be highly desirable.
