Position Title Various Resource Assistant Positions
Position Description
Stewards Individual Placement Program (Stewards) is a program of Conservation Legacy. Stewards provide individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
The USFS (US Forest Service) Resource Assistant Program (RAP) is a rigorous, immersive, paid internship providing developmental and training opportunities for individuals interested in learning more about Forest Service careers. These positions are 52 weeks (about 12 months) placements.
Resource Assistants work on various projects including landscape architecture, engineering, geology, hydrology, recreation management, communications, botany, and more! There are usually a broad range of the types of Resource Assistant positions that we recruit for at a time. Stewards is currently recruiting for multiple Resource Assistant positions focused on Archaeology, Recreation, Ecology, and other fields!
Standard Minimum Requirements:
- US Citizen
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must have or be able to obtain a post-secondary degree by end of service (associate’s degree or Higher)
- Have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by Conservation Legacy (over 21 years old or driver’s license for at least three years)
Standard Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong organization and communication skills
- Interest in pursuing a career with a government agency
Standard Benefits:
- $1,000.00 per month housing allowance. (pre-tax)
- $50 monthly commuting reimbursement fund. (pre-tax)
- $2,750.00 – $4,750.00 Professional Development and Travel fund.
- Eligible for Health Benefits on the first day of the month after the 60th day of employment.
- On-the-job training related to position responsibilities.
After completing at least 960 hours (about 6 and a half months) of satisfactory work and obtaining at least an associate degree, RA’s may acquire a two-year certificate of noncompetitive hiring eligibility. The certificate enables participants to apply to internal merit announcements for qualifying permanent General Schedule FS positions and a Direct Hire Authority for FS Career positions.
