schedule. Candidates applying for this role will be expected to
work in the Washington, D.C. office three days per week unless an
ADA or health-related exemption is approved.

Summary:  Solidarity Center is the largest U.S.-based
grassroots worker rights organization in the world promoting and
advancing worker rights worldwide. We partner with more than 1,000
partners in more than 60 countries with a focus on the Global
South. 88% of these are local and grassroots partners reaching more
than 70 million people. 

The Solidarity Center seeks an early-mid career professional to
fill a newly created position assisting the Executive Director and
Resource Development Lead with private fundraising. The Resource
and Development Officer (Professional Level II) will support annual
giving campaigns with individual donors and help implement annual
#GivingTuesday and year-end campaigns. This individual will assist
with regional outreach and education, including prospect research
and communication and stewardship with potential private
foundations and high-level individual donors in assigned regions.
Other tasks include coordinating special events, conducting
campaign solicitations during emergency fundraisers in
collaboration with affinity partners, and managing direct mail
programs.

The Resource Development Officer will be the primary person
monitoring and implementing the existing individual donor database
through Network for Good and private foundation outreach and
education. This includes generating data reports and organizational
management of the fundraising drive on Google Drive in alignment
with the organization’s fundraising strategy. As part of the
year-end campaign, this individual will draft tax-acknowledgement
letters and enter gift data in coordination with the finance
department and in compliance with legal requirements as per the
International Revenue Services.

In regard to private foundations, the Resource Development
Officer will utilize a wide range of prospect research databases to
ensure partnership alignment with Solidarity Center’s mission,
strategy, and standards. This individual will draft relevant,
attractive, and high-quality fundraising products and proposals for
private foundations, particularly non-labor or new-to-labor
audiences. The Resource Development Officer must ensure that
written material is grammatically and factually correct, and in
compliance with donor grant requirements.

 

In addition, this position will support the Executive Director
and the Resource Development Lead in expanding staff knowledge and
capacity around fundraising by providing information, tools, and
resources. This includes drafting and delivering training curricula
and course material, such as talking points to help tailor programs
for private foundations and corporate donors. The Resource
Development Officer will coordinate the development and
implementation of education, training, and other programs with the
communications department as related to external fundraising
materials. This individual will need to develop creative ideas for
new uses of fundraising tools through social media and other
avenues.

 

The Resource and Development Officer may be required to write
persuasive proposals describing complex activities, develop
proposal budgets, and produce well-written program reports and
evaluations. This will entail exchanging information with other
departments regarding the work of the Solidarity Center and serving
as a liaison with internal stakeholders for resource development
purposes. This individual will represent Solidarity Center at
meetings and donor engagement events. Limited program-related
overseas travel may be required.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, political
    science, international relations, labor relations, or a related
    field and/or seven years of related work experience in a non-profit
    setting
  • Broad knowledge of international relations including but not
    limited to trade union and socio-economic and political
    developments in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Experience in various aspects of fundraising and database
    management working with a range of external stakeholders within a
    nonprofit organization
  • Trade union experience (highly desirable but not required)
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills, including the
    ability to be clear and concise in all communication with a wide
    range of groups and individuals
  • Demonstrated ability to interact easily with a wide variety of
    people, maintaining positive, collaborative, and productive
    relationships with staff and external audiences at all levels
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills developing
    donor relationships to enhance year-round interaction with the
    Solidarity Center and individual donors and private funders
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to balance
    multiple competing priorities while maintaining strong attention to
    detail
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments with
    limited supervision, and to manage multiple assignments
    simultaneously
  • Ability to collaborate and coordinate with others across the
    organization, as well as with donors, to ensure that language and
    design are on-brand and consistent with the organization’s mission,
    standards and processes
  • Computer literacy for word processing, simple spreadsheets and
    databases
  • Familiarity with CRM databases, such as RaisersEdge,
    NetworkForGood, or Salesforce (desirable but not required)
  • Familiarity with prospect research and charitable giving, such
    as DonorSearch’s Gift Search, Blackbaud, Inside Philanthropy, or
    Foundation Center Online/Guidestar (desirable but not
    required)
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite including graphic design
    (desirable but not required)
  • Passion for Solidarity Center’s mission and a dedication to
    organizational nonprofit management and donor stewardship
  • Fluency in a foreign language (helpful and desirable but not
    required).

  

Supervisor:  Executive Director, under the guidance of the
Global Lead for Resource Development

Specific Duties:

  • Conduct research and use it to create fundraising
    products;
  • Work directly with the Global Lead of Resource Development on
    donor-related engagement for income-generating activities at the
    grassroots level, including: the Combined Federal Campaign CFC,
    #GivingTuesday, year-end fundraising, and emergency fundraising
    activities with special events in coordination with constituency
    groups.
  • Create fundraising graphics for customized fundraising appeals
    including direct mail, partner presentations, briefing materials,
    and other collateral materials.
  • Draft visually engaging fundraising collateral and graphics for
    donor funding propositions and impact reporting in close
    collaboration with the Communications Department.
  • Leads aspects of design under the guidance of the Global Lead
    for Resource Development, from conception to completion, including
    donor pitch decks, standardized design templates, reports, and
    customized campaign and fundraising curriculum collateral for
    internal and external usage.
  • Compile briefing materials, such as summaries, for fundraising
    purposes.
  • Support on proposal and report monitoring and supervision.
  • Collaborate with Communications and Campaign Departments on
    larger fundraising moments as needed, such as emergency fundraising
    events or International Women’s Day, End of Year, and others.
  • Represent Solidarity Center as directed during the year-end
    giving campaign and directed donor-specific events.
  • Create and maintain contact, event, and other CRM
    databases.
  • Interact with vendors to facilitate print and web
    publishing.
  • Draft and/or edit proposals, budgets, reports, letters, and
    other correspondence.
  • Monitor programs to meet budget targets.
  • Coordinate activities with Solidarity Center’s program
    departments.
  • Maintain relationships with other organizations.

 

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be
required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United
States and to complete the required employment eligibility
verification document form upon hire.

 

This is a collective bargaining unit position, generously
compensated with a gross annual salary starting at approximately
$79,000 USD based on experience. A robust benefits package includes
fully paid health insurance, a retirement plan and pension, life
insurance, and ample paid time off for holidays, vacation, and
medical leave. Pre-tax deduction programs are also available for
commuting, dependent care, and health care expenses. In addition,
