Position Summary
This individual placement crew with the Student Conservation Association at Mud Mountain Dam offers hands-on experience in natural resource management and park operations, supervised by USACE staff and Park Rangers. The crew members will assist with a variety of tasks including boundary management, data collection, species monitoring, and trail/habitat maintenance. The role also includes some administrative duties like data compilation and report creation, alongside operating equipment like UTVs and lawnmowers. A key component involves park maintenance, from restroom cleaning to concrete work and landscaping. The crew members will also engage in public outreach, educating visitors about flood risk, water safety, and natural resources – and will be expected to report on these interactions. These positions offer opportunities to develop interpretive materials and maintain outreach resources for the public.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Park Maintenance & Operations: landscaping, moving materials, equipment maintenance, painting, concrete work, and general use of hand/power tools, cleaning restrooms; Natural Resource Management: natural resource inventories/surveys, threatened & endangered species monitoring, invasive species removal, and wildlife habitat management.
Marginal Duties
Boundary Management & GIS Data: Collecting and inputting GIS data, and assisting with boundary management; Public Outreach & Education: Educating the public on flood risk, natural resources, and water safety; Administrative Tasks: Assembling reports, compiling data, and creating charts/tables;
Required Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age; Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license; Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent; Must have the ability to effectively speak, read, and write in English; Must have the ability to work outdoors and lift up to 40 pounds; Must wear SCA provided attire while on duty;
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with outdoor work/labor, GIS Skills.

Compensation
Per USACE policy, local candidates will not receive a to/from travel but will receive a weekly commuting travel allowance instead
