Mission and objectives
The Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD) is an organisation that advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities as well as nurturing and strengthening its affiliates and other stakeholders in Southern Africa to ensure promotion of inclusive development and human rights for persons with disabilities. It is a leading Southern African disability-focused network engaged in coordination of activities of organisations of disabled persons in the region.
The organisation was formed in 1986 by disabled people for disabled people as a federation of non-governmental disability organisations. To date, 10 countries are affiliated to SAFOD through National Federations of Disabled People Organisations (NFDPOs).
The organisations pursues the following vision: “A new society where all people, including disabled people, women and workers, men and children, are treated with dignity, respect and on the basis of equality” Some of its values includes

Some of the aims and objectives of SAFOD include: (i) Encouragement of the formation of organisations of disabled people in Southern Africa; (ii) Provision of support and strengthening of existing affiliates; (iii) Training of personnel and leaders of organisations of disabled people; (iv) Promotion, support and complementing of government policies and programmes in favour of disabled people in the SADC region; (v) Facilitation of information exchange as well as affiliation and cooperation with other regional, continental and international organisations.
Context
SAFOD is dedicated to building organizational capacities for its affiliates, for them to be able to advocate for the rights of persons with disabilitites within their respective countries in the southern Africa region and their organizations.
It is one of SAFODs mandate to ensure that capacity is built for national aafiliates and that the volunteer will be attached to one of the 16 countries in the region, to support the resource mobilization efforts of the affiliates.
SAFOD needs individuals who will support the resource mobilization efforts of national affiliates and ensure that they engage all fundraising strategies to maximize the efforts. The resource mobilization volunteer will be attached to one affiliate and work directly with the resource mobilization focal person in the organization, who will be the one to give direction on how to implement the resource mobilization plan while the volunteer supports the focal person.
Task description
Join us in making a lasting impact in Southern Africa! We are seeking passionate and experienced individuals to volunteer as online mentors for affiliate countries in the Southern Africa region, specifically Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Namibia, Tanzania and the DRC. If you have expertise in resource mobilization, grant writing, concept development, fundraising, events management, or governance, we invite you to be part of our team dedicated to fostering positive change.
As an online mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting our affiliates in various capacities. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Resource Mobilization: Provide guidance on sourcing and managing resources effectively, including financial and non-financial assets.
2. Grant Writing: Assist in developing compelling grant proposals, from identifying opportunities to crafting persuasive narratives.
3. Concept Development: Collaborate with organizations to refine their project ideas and create impactful concepts for potential funders.
4. Fundraising: Offer strategies and best practices for successful fundraising campaigns and donor engagement.
5. Events Management: Share expertise in planning, organizing, and executing events to raise funds and awareness.
Online Volunteers must never be asked or requested to solicit donations/funds from third parties.
