JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State’s Office for Research Protections (ORP) seeks a highly motivated and experienced professional to serve as the Responsible Conduct of Research Educator.

The ORP, part of the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research, plays a pivotal role in supporting Penn State’s vibrant research community, boasting an annual research expenditure of $1.23 billion and ranking among the top 30 public research universities in the nation. The ORP oversees the research compliance and administrative processes for human participants, research security, and conflict of interest disclosures.

The Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Educator will report to the Director of Education and Outreach.

Responsibilities: As part of the Education and Outreach team, the RCR Educator will:

  • Coordinate the Scholarship and Research Integrity (SARI) program, which monitors the training of Penn State’s approximately 10,000 graduate students, all new faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate researchers in the ethical conduct of research.
    • Organize and host regular SARI workshops (10-12/semester).
    • Develop and deliver additional RCR programming University-wide.
    • With Education Assistant, monitor SARI program completion and adherence.
    • Working with the Director, evaluate effectiveness of RCR offerings.
  • Manage Penn State’s annual research administrative training program, ACOR Certification and Education Series (ACES). This includes hosting weekly trainings; managing curriculum and enrollment; and offering training for subject matter expert instructors.
  • Assist in coordinating the Research Integrity and Scholarly Ethics (RISE) program, an RCR program for graduate students.
  • Assist in ORP communications, including the newsletter and website.
  • Contribute to additional educational offerings for the research community, including backing up other team educators.
  • Work closely with the ORP compliance programs, the Office of Sponsored Programs, and the Graduate School.

The position can performed remotely within the US and may require occasional on-site training delivery at Penn State’s commonwealth locations, particularly University Park and College of Medicine, located in Hershey, PA, and may hire, train, supervise, and/or evaluate assigned staff.

Minimum Qualifications

This position typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher (Master’s degree preferred) and 6+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proven experience in instructional design and training, showcasing successful development and delivery of learning materials and sessions.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in the management and coordination of complex programs.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to summarize and convey technical information to a diverse audience is critical.
  • Exceptional professionalism with a strong customer-service orientation required.
  • Experience with research, responsible conduct of research, or research administration desired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office expected.
  • Experience with instructional development software and multimedia tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia) including HTML for web-based content creation desired.
