About the Business Unit:

Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is part of the Police, Racing, Victims and Coordination (PRVC) group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety and is responsible for coordinating services for victims of crime in Victoria. The Family Violence Restorative Justice (FVRJ) Service within VSSR, delivers restorative process options to victim survivors of family violence.

The FVRJ Service was developed as part of the reform agenda arising from the Royal Commission into Family Violence, and is guided by a framework of principles that was developed collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. The FVRJ Service is designed to build on existing restorative justice practice and also to extend its use in new and innovative ways to meet the restorative needs of victim survivors of family violence.

About the Role:

The Restorative Justice Practice Lead leads the FVRJ Service’s practice team, made up of Convenors and Specialist Support Workers, in delivering trauma-informed, victim-centred restorative options to victim survivors of family violence.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Leading the delivery of safe and effective restorative processes for victim survivors of family violence, including through direct practice and leadership of the practice team
  • Establishing and leading processes for mentoring, coaching and supporting the practice team in a manner that accounts for individual experience, role, learning style and interests of each team member
  • Leading input to policies, procedures and guidelines underpinning VSSR restorative justice practice.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • An extensive technical understanding of restorative justice practice, theories and processes, and practical experience in facilitating restorative justice processes in complex therapeutic contexts
  • A wealth of experience in team leadership and providing mentoring, coaching and supervision to practitioners
  • A deep understanding of the unique considerations of victim-centred restorative justice.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (such as Psychology, Social Work, Human Services or Law) and/or a minimum of five years in practice in a related field (such as restorative or group conferencing, family violence specialist services, family and community services, mediation and therapeutic justice) is required.
