The National Energy Foundation
The National Energy Foundation is an independent charity based in Milton Keynes, which has been
at the forefront of improving the use of energy in buildings since 1988. We aim to give people,
organisations and government the knowledge, support and inspiration they need to understand,
manage and reduce the use of energy in buildings.
Role Summary:
The Retrofit Assessor will work closely with and support our existing inhouse Retrofit
Coordinators to deliver a high volume of retrofit plans (WHRP). The Assessor will carry out the
majority of the home surveys, gather data and liaise with the Retrofit Coordinator in making
recommendations on retrofit options. In addition, and as appropriate, the Assessor will input
data into SAP energy modelling for review by the Coordinator. You will also provide basic
technical advice and guidance to customers in the form of consultations before and after the
issue of the retrofit plan.
Candidates applying for this role must be both an accredited Retrofit Assessor (level
4) and Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA).
SuperHomes & Energy advice project
SuperHomes is a project delivered by NEF which has a focus on whole house domestic retrofit. It
is both a Network of Members and a Rating Scheme. All aspiring SuperHomers are encouraged to
follow a customer journey that is aligned to PAS2035, starting with a Whole House Retrofit Plan
(WHRP) – also known as a medium-term improvement plan – from a Retrofit Coordinator. NEF are
currently working with over 500 individual aspiring SuperHomers and anticipate many more
requesting our services over the coming months. Due to our recent success in securing new
funding, NEF is looking to recruit a Retrofit Assessor to support our existing Retrofit
Coordinators with delivering a significant number of retrofit option appraisals (WHRP’s). The
project will be focused in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and around the UK
Key Responsibilities:
- Carrying out home surveys in line with the provisions and role requirements for Retrofit
Assessors under PAS 2035. - To undertake energy modelling using SAP software and interpreting EPC baseline, incremental
improvements and post retrofit ratings. - Assist in determining the options for appropriate packages of retrofit measures to suit the
home and customer’s interest. - Undertaking basic retrofit risk assessments.
- Estimate changes in annual running costs and household emissions pre and post retrofit.
- Estimate the installation costs of selected retrofit measures using a database.
- Populating the retrofit plan template with commentary and text as appropriate.
- Agreeing final versions of retrofit plans with the Coordinator prior to issuing to
customer. - Providing consultation with the customer pre and post issue of the retrofit plan to
establish aspirations and review findings and recommendations. - Assist with signing customers up to the local retrofit service and participating in
marketing activity. - Advising customers on next steps with their retrofit journey and with a view to measures
being installed. - Advising and signposting customers to available capital grant funding support for retrofit
measures and making referrals to NEF colleagues to take applications forward. - Connecting customers with retrofit installers from NEF’s supplier network where
appropriate. - Reviewing retrofit proposals made by third party suppliers and installers.
- To potentially provide retrofit option appraisals acting as initial advice to homeowners as
to how they could improve domestic energy efficiency. These appraisals would follow a new
template and will essentially be a slimmed down version of a full medium-term improvement plan
(WHRP), which could later be developed into a full retrofit PAS 2035 plan if required. The
slimmed down version is referred to as a ‘lite’ plan. - Offer general support services to the Project Manager and Coordinator as necessary for
successful implementation and delivery of the project. - To represent NEF at events, to promote the charity, its projects and aims.
- Work with a range of systems and processes, including relevant CRM systems and/or
databases. - Keeping records up to date and progress reporting to the Project Manager.
