The Ending Plastic Pollution Innovation Challenge (EPPIC), funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), is an ASEAN-wide competition calling for all innovators to share their bright ideas for tackling plastic pollution with the world. Since 2023, over 300 innovators (from 7 ASEAN countries) applied to the competition to address plastic pollution in 4 coastal cities. 31 finalist teams were selected to join the 3-months incubation programmes (delivered in a hybrid format), visit the project sites, and developed supportive networks of partners. 8 winning teams (of which women led five teams) received 18,000 USD in equity-free seed funding and enrolled in the 9-month impact acceleration programmes. As of January 2022, Finalists from Phase 1 have received a total cumulative investment of 324,000 USD, in addition to the seed funding disbursed by the EPPIC of 72,000 USD. The project has become a space for ASEAN countries to disseminate lessons learned and best practices regarding the prevention and reduction of plastic waste in nature.
