PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The UN Secretary-General established the UN SDG Action Campaign to inspire people and organizations from all backgrounds and every part of the world to take actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, while holding decision-makers to account for progress society-wide. The UN SDG Action Campaign is hosted and supported by the UNDP, and it is based in Bonn (Germany) with a lean team that marshals rapid support for new initiatives as opportunities arise and provides partners with on-demand strategic creative services that inspire SDG action with an engaged community of activists and concerned individuals.
The UN SDG Action Campaign leverages advocacy to foster transformation because today’s challenges transcend any person, government, or organization. The Campaign’s advocacy for change approach inspires hope and champions actions to achieve the SDGs. It calls for rethinking, recalibrating and reimagining economies and societies so that they serve people and the planet.
The UN SDG Action Awards, a signature programme of the UN SDG Action Campaign, champions initiatives and committed individuals who are wielding the power of creativity and innovation to bring us closer to a more sustainable, equitable and peaceful world. The UN SDG Action Campaign believes that anyone can mobilize action and achieve impact -even in the most challenging contexts- and it is committed to showcase these powerful heroes and send a message of hope and possibilities.
Each year, a high-level Panel of Judges and a technical review team consider over 5,000 applications and nominations from 190 countries and selects the finalists and then the winners who are announced at a live UN SDG Action Awards ceremony in Rome, Italy.
The UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony on 29 October 2024 will include the 9 finalists and winners, along with 1-2 Honorable Mentions. The Ceremony will feature musical entertainment (2-3 live performances) and multiple videos. All performances will include at minimum a backing track, background visuals, and up to three wireless microphones. The Ceremony will be livestreamed globally and on national TV and radio to inspire a global and Italian audience via UN WebTV and in partnership with Rai, Italy’s public national broadcaster, which also provides editorial and production support for the event.
