Are you a Maine college student interested in spending a summer learning about land conservation and practical skills involved in caring for land in Maine?

The Richard G. Rockefeller Conservation Internship Program could be just right for you! There are 11 positions available through this residential summer internship. Those selected will be paired with host land trusts throughout Maine.

How it works: This program places each Maine student intern with a land trust within the state of Maine (one intern with each land trust). This is an entry level position, and no experience is required.

Internship duties may include but are not limited to trail work, working with volunteers, conservation easement monitoring, and other stewardship related projects.

Wage: $14.00 per hour (housing provided)

Requirements

You must be:

  • a student attending school in the state of Maine (or student with some Maine connection): undergraduate, certificate program, or trade school applications accepted
  • available June 3 to August 9
  • self-motivated, willing and able to work independently or as part of a team, willing to learn new skills
  • have reliable transportation

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Field work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and requires climbing, walking, bending, crouching, lifting heavy objects (over 50 lbs.), reaching, and other physical capabilities.  Operates GPS, compass, camera, boats/marine vessels, trucks, tractor, trailer, lawnmower, chainsaw, table saw, and related power tools, hand tools, and equipment, often in remote locations that can require long hikes carrying equipment.  Regular travel is required. Weekend and night work is common.

Some work is performed in a normal office environment not subject to extremes of noise, temperature, odor, etc. Operates computer, printer, and other office equipment.
