Qualifications

1)  Background

 

The goal of the Communicable and Non-communicable Diseases Cluster is to provide leadership and ensure action in supporting Member States in reducing the impact of communicable and non-communicable diseases, while contributing to achieving universal health coverage and the sustainable development goals (SGDs) in the WHO African Region. The goal of the cluster can be encapsulated as the aim of reducing the burden of disease across the region, with specific reference to the diseases forming the Cluster’s programmes.

 

 

 

The Cluster is responsible for the following technical areas – HIV, Tuberculosis and Hepatitis, including other Sexually Transmitted Infections; Tropical and Vector Borne Diseases, including Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases; Non- Communicable diseases; and Vaccine Preventable Diseases. The Cluster provides leadership and vision to the above and related areas of work in the WHO African Region and facilitates planning, programming, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of services in an integrated approach. The Cluster is responsible for joint actions with the ARD and UHC-LC Clusters to respond to the needs of the population through the integrated delivery of interventions and services for CNDs equitably across the life course, through strengthened health systems, and for response to outbreaks to vaccine-preventable and vector-borne diseases with the Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Cluster. The Cluster also develops strategic partnerships, mobilizing capacities in the region in the pursuit of its objectives and contributes to cross-Cluster resource mobilization in order to achieve universal coverage for significant improvement in health outcomes using Primary Health Care as a delivery vehicle. The Director’s Office is responsible for developing leading monitoring and evaluating the work of the UHC-UCN Group and coordinating its action with WHO Headquarters, Clusters, and partner agencies and institutions.

 

 

 

 

The purpose of this consultancy is to apply knowledge of process and branding to successfully execute and complete various types of UCN programmes materials (offline web pages, online event information and booking pages, brochures, catalogs, training documents, newsletters, factsheets, PowerPoint presentations, briefs, and any other business development materials) -Set up norms and procedures of graphic design to be applied to any UCN documents.

 

 

 

 

 2) Description of duties:

 

Tasks:

 

  •      Coordinate layout, design, and revisions of documents from programmes across the UCN cluster.
  •    Collaborate with the Regional Office communication unit on design and formatting of presentations/documents in a variety of formats and across a variety of media.
  •     Maintain archive of presentations, flyers, country, and regional profiles, including standard file structures, sharing of best products, knowledge, and expertise.
  •     Contribute to building capacity in graphic design in WHO Country Offices.
  •     Explore and propose innovative approaches to convey data and narratives from reports.
  •     Support the development of communication products such as leaflets, booklets, brochures, posters etc.
  •     Liaise and follow up with RO-TIP for printing and processing of final documents when required.
  •     Perform any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Deliverables:

 

  •     Assist in preparation of Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and develop final versions using text provided.
  •     Design and format infographics and reports in consultation with UCN staff developing communication products in a variety of formats across a variety of media
  •     Manage competing graphic design projects and work according to tight deadlines
  •     Conceptualize visuals based on requirements for different document types – pdf, PowerPoint etc.
  •     Amend designs after feedback
  •     Conceptualize and design all documents submitted by using appropriate infographics tools and equipment to promote UCN reports and communication products
  •     Explore and propose innovative approaches to convey data and narratives from reports

 

 

3)  Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

 

Education (Qualifications)

 

Essential: 

  • University Degree in graphic design or any other related field. 

Desirable

 

  • Specialised training in graphic design or related fields.

Experience

 

Essential: 

  • At least 2 years of working experience in graphic design. Demonstrated expertise in professional formatting of official documents using graphic design software (Adobe CS and others).

Desirable:

  • Experience with an international organization (UN Agency or International Non-Governmental Organisation)

 

 

 

 

 

Skills

 

A portfolio of documents such as PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, pamphlets, display boards, etc. Strong PowerPoint skills are essential. Must

To be familiar with software such as Adobe In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop etc. To have extensive experience in website design and graphic maintenance.

 

 

 

 

 

4)    Languages required

 

 

Essential: 

  •    Excellent knowledge of English or French with working knowledge of the other.

Desirable:

  • Intermediate knowledge of Portuguese.

 

  5)    Location  

  • Multiple locations within the WHO African region.

 

 

        6)    Remuneration and budget

 

 

 

Band level A: USD 5,380 – 6,980 per month

 

 

 

        7)    Duration of contract:

 

From 2 to 11 months, depending on individual tasks.

The Consultant shall be solely responsible for withholding and paying any taxes, duties, social security contributions and any other contributions which are applicable to the Consultant in in each location/jurisdiction in which the work hereunder is performed, and the Consultant shall not be entitled to any reimbursement thereof by WHO.
