Monrovia is a coastal capital city with basic services, international flight connections, and a growing expatriate community. Security conditions are generally stable; standard UN security protocols apply. Electricity and water supply are unreliable, and many residents rely on generators and private delivery systems. Western amenities such as restaurants and supermarkets are available but more expensive than local options. Essential goods are accessible in local markets.
Liberia is a family duty station. Several mobile telephone companies provide reliable coverage, and SIM cards are easily available. Local banks operate in both local and foreign currencies, though international credit card acceptance remains limited.
