Safeguarding Specialist

Danish Refugee Council (DRC)is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently employing over 650 staff to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for aSafeguarding Specialistto join the team in Kyiv.

This position will report to the Country Director.

Overall purpose of the role:

TheSafeguarding Specialist ensures the safety and protection of people receiving humanitarian aid. AsSafeguarding Specialist, you will work closely with our Gender Based Violence (GBV) Specialist to implement DRC’s global protection policies and procedures within our programs in Ukraine. Your responsibility will be to provide comprehensive training to DRC employees and partners on protection principles, including the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (PSEAH), and compliance with our Code of Conduct.

Main responsibilities:

• Develop and implement specific training materials on protection in collaboration with the GBV Specialist.
• Conduct comprehensive trainings on the PSEAH Initiative and the DRC Code of Conduct for employees and partners.
• Integrate the policy of protection from gender-based violence and discrimination into the recruitment and onboarding processes.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of the PSEAH action plan in Ukraine.
• Ensure compliance with safe programs principles in project design and implementation.
• Improve community feedback mechanisms to communicate protection concerns.
• Strengthen the policies and practices of health care partners through capacity assessment and support.
• Act as the focal point for the Code of Conduct system and conduct trainings across the country.
• Represent DRC at coordination meetings and working groups on safety and security issues.
• Perform other relevant tasks as assigned by the line manager.

Required experience and competencies

To be successful in this position, we expect you to have 3 years of experience in training, awareness raising and/or creating visual materials. In addition, we also expect the following:

• Commitment to gender equality and interest in protection work.
• Familiarity with topics related to gender-based violence and protection of vulnerable groups.
• Strong facilitation skills and experience in conducting trainings.
• Willingness to discuss sensitive topics.
• Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with colleagues and partner organizations.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple responsibilities.
• Strong sense of personal integrity and understanding of confidentiality and ethics.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems.
• High level of English language proficiency.
• Knowledge of the Ukrainian language is required.

Education:
complete secondary education or relevant work experience. Higher education is desirable.
