The Role

As the UN Advocacy and Global Diplomacy Intern, you will be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. You will support Save the Children’s New York based global advocacy and diplomacy work, with a particular focus on children affected by armed conflict, humanitarian crises, and other major global policy debates affecting children.

The New York Advocacy Hub works with Member States, UN agencies, civil society partners and other stakeholders to influence political action for children through the United Nations, including the Security Council, General Assembly and other multilateral processes. You will support the team by monitoring UN meetings and developments, conducting research and stakeholder analysis, preparing concise advocacy and briefing materials, supporting events and meetings, and helping the team maintain strong systems for follow up, coordination and information management.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

• Monitor relevant UN meetings, debates, negotiations, civil society briefings and other public events, and prepare concise written readouts for internal audiences
• Conduct research and analysis on UN policy and political developments related to children and armed conflict, child protection in humanitarian crises, humanitarian access, and protection of humanitarian space
• Support stakeholder mapping and research on Member States, UN actors, civil society organizations and other influencers relevant to Save the Children’s advocacy priorities
• Draft and edit content for background briefs, talking points, meeting notes, one-pagers, advocacy materials and internal updates
• Support preparation for meetings with Member States, UN officials, civil society partners and other external stakeholders, including briefing packs, agendas, logistics and follow-up notes
• Assist with the planning and delivery of strategic events, roundtables workshops and internal coordination meetings linked to Save the Children’s UN advocacy priorities
• Support the team’s work on priority crisis contexts, including oPt and Sudan, and monitored crises where relevant to agreed advocacy priorities
• Contribute to cross-hub work on systems reform and financing where it connects to New York based processes
• Provide practical coordination and delivery support for the New York Hub, including maintaining contact lists, meeting trackers, calendars, shared files, event logistics, action trackers and other systems that support team delivery
• Support day-to-day coordination across the New York team and wider Global Diplomacy team, including scheduling support, internal information-sharing, document management, preparation of meeting materials and tracking follow-up from priority engagements
• Attend internal and external meetings and assist with notetaking, action tracking and follow-up
• Other duties as assigned

Required qualifications for the role

• Must be actively enrolled in an Associates, Bachelors, or Master’s degree program, or have graduated within 6 months of the start date.
• Demonstrated interest in international affairs, child rights, humanitarian policy, global development, and/or multilateral diplomacy
• Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple competing priorities.
• Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred qualifications for the role

• Familiarity with the United Nations, international relations, humanitarian policy
• Interest in how advocacy, diplomacy and political engagement can improve outcomes for children
• Experience taking clear notes, tracking action points, synthesizing information, or preparing written updates for different audiences
• Excellent writing and research skills.
• Strong interest in global development, humanitarian, and/or domestic policy issues.
• Demonstrated success providing excellent customer service.

Compensation: $17.00 / hour

Hours: maximum 20 hours per week
