Job Title: SBC (Social Behavior Change Program Intern)

Location: Monrovia

Reports to: SBC Health Services Specialist

Breakthrough ACTION Liberia is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to lead social and behavior change (SBC) programming in 12 counties. Led by the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP), Breakthrough ACTION Liberia partners include Viamo and ideas42. The vision of the Breakthrough ACTION Liberia project is to deliver effective, high-quality social and behavior change (SBC) activities in Liberia that will result in improved demand and use of health services for malaria; maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH); nutrition; family planning/ reproductive health (FP/RH); adolescent health; and water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) and engage communities in behaviors to prevent zoonotic and non-zoonotic infections in line with the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA).

Summary: The SBC Intern will be responsible for assisting the Health Services Specialist and the Field Managers with the day-to-day implementation and oversight of Breakthrough ACTION-Liberia’s Social Behavior Change intervention activities at national and sub-national levels in close collaboration with Breakthrough ACTION -Liberia field Manager. The intern will also coordinate and follow up on program implementation department requests and provide appropriate responses to the field managers. The primary objective of this internship is to provide hands-on experience to work-ready young Liberians in the implementation of social behavior change programs. The intern will work closely with the Health Services Team and other relevant stakeholders to contribute to the Breakthrough ACTION Liberia Project’s goal.

Duration: 3 Months (June -August 2024 with possible extension based on performance and funding.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The SBC Program Intern’s specific duties will include:

  • Work with the technical teams to prepare and submit activity plans and reports, monthly activity updates, and quarterly as may be required
  • Support the technical teams to plan and coordinate meetings, trainings, workshops, and transfer of knowledge and skills to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Responsible for note taking doing training
  • Ensure that all SBC workshop notes and participants’ listings are accurately filed

Participate in weekly team meetings and provide updates on activities

  • Ensure all approved requests are compiled, follow up to ensure that the right information is shared with the relevant stakeholder
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by Breakthrough ACTION-Liberia Health Services Specialist.

Specific Skill Requirements:

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office is an added advantage.
  • A problem-solving and solution-oriented attitude; be methodical and adaptable
  • Ability to meet up with deadlines
  • Approachable and willing to listen and assist colleagues
  • Willingness to travel to assign counties as needed
  • Good communication and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities at this time.

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum of bachelor’s degree or final year university student of Health Sciences, Social Sciences, and related field of studies. More than 2-years of work experience will not be considered

Language Skills: Must be fluent in English and Liberian local dialects.
