The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced coordinator to join our Community Activation team at Family Life as a School Focused Youth Service (SFYS) Coordinator.

The SFYS Coordinator will work in partnership with targeted schools and the community to provide effective services to young people in Grade 5 to Year 12 at risk of not completing their education.

This is a Full Time, Fixed Term Contract role working across the Bayside and Kingston areas, with regular work in the Frankston area.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Deliver the School Focused Youth Service program within the Local Government areas of Bayside and Kingston (and sometimes Frankston when required) in accordance with the Department of Education program guidelines, service agreement and funding requirements.
  • Coordinate or facilitate effective programs and activities to young people at risk of school disengagement.
  • Create partnerships and pathways between schools and community organisations to support vulnerable young people and their families.
  • Ensure initiatives reflect an understanding of the social, educational, emotional and psychological factors, which contribute to students being at risk of not achieving educational outcomes.
  • Contribute to school capacity building in responding to vulnerable young people and the associated complexities.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and services, to ensure an integrated and collaborative approach that supports positive outcomes for young people.
  • Regularly seek feedback from schools, students and community regarding the effectiveness of the interventions/ activities delivered.
  • Ensure all relevant program planning, finance requirements, documentation, evaluation and reporting are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

Passionate about achieving better outcomes for students, you have proven experience in working with young people, families and communities using a family and community centred approach.

You are highly skilled in partnership development and promotion and have a well developed understanding of the education environment, including the ability to engage with staff at all levels across the education and community sectors.

You have demonstrated experience in program development, coordination and evaluation, and pride yourself in your focus on continuous improvement, curiosity, creativity and collaboration.

With demonstrated skill in facilitating groups, forums, committees, collaborative partnerships and professional development workshops, you’re a people person. A great team player, an excellent communicator and super organised, you’re passionate about achieving results for the young people you are working with.

With a minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Community Development, Psychology, Social Work, Community Services or related discipline, you’re a professional with a can-do approach, who aligns deeply with the work of our organisation.
