TreePeople unites with communities to grow a greener, shadier and more water-secure region at homes, neighborhoods, schools, and in the local mountains.

Treepeople is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated School Greening Education Coordinator to spearhead the launch and execution of our School Greening Education program across Los Angeles. This individual will oversee logistics, curriculum development, and community engagement and lead hands-on projects that instill a deep understanding of nature-based climate solutions in students and communities. 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the launch and implementation of the School Greening (SG) Education curriculum in the greater Los Angeles area to emphasize the importance of nature-based climate solutions in communities and schools.
  • Coordinate day-to-day logistics of the School Greening Education program including timelines, deadlines, Salesforce updates, budgets, and correspondence with other TreePeople teams.
  • Support and assist in design of and implementation of Teacher Professional Development Workshops.
  • Schedule and coordinate lessons with each School Greening school: call principals, coordinate schedules, schedule meetings with teachers, and ensure that each School Greening school receives lessons.
  • Implement in-school lessons on campuses by teaching hands-on environmental service learning projects for students.
  • Maintain and update the School Greening Education curriculum content before, during, and after the completion of green infrastructure improvements.
  • Support environmental education activities for students, after-school family workshops, and volunteer school greening plantings to keep the community informed and involved.
  • Constantly evaluate lessons for cultural relevance, diversity, and sensitivity to promote an equitable learning environment and assess impact of implemented changes on promoting equity and diversity.
  • Support Senior Manager of Youth Leadership to ensure daily and overall School Greening educational contract tasks and deliverables are completed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Highly-organized, strong work-ethic, friendly, smart, proactive and a quick-learner.
  • Experience implementing environmental education lessons in-classrooms grades TK–12.
  • Experience working with students in and around school gardens, native plants, rain gardens, learning gardens etc. and familiar with the impacts of urban development and green solutions.
  • Familiar with and interested in local climate, water resilience and environmental issues impacting diverse communities throughout Los Angeles County.
  • Knowledge of environmental, equity and education issues, especially urban water and/or green infrastructure issues in Los Angeles County and engaging local communities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: engaging, listening, negotiating, public speaking, and writing.
  • High computer literacy, including familiarity with Salesforce, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Asana and other internet-based programs.
  • Highest ethical standards for complying with all contractual and legal obligations, both as an individual and as a manager leading a team, to uphold TreePeople’s good faith and community commitment.
  • Spanish fluency is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, this position requires standing, walking, driving and the ability to lift 15 pounds.
  • Must have reliable transportation to be able to fulfill these requirements.

Salary Description

$21.00 – $24.00 per hour
