We are working with the UK’s leading sustainable travel organisations to recruit a School
Streets Officer to support Sheffield City Council’s schools to support them to improve safety
around the school gates, increase active journeys to and from school and improve air quality
around schools. The successful candidate will be working closely with Council Officers to
deliver, implement, maintain, monitor and evaluate School Street schemes across Sheffield.
This role will involve working as part of a project team including, Sheffield City Council,
Project Manager and PWLC Projects. Key responsibilities will include :
- Create, implement and monitor a School Streets engagement plan in partnership with
Sheffield City Council Officers - Support the whole school communities to successfully implement and maintain School Streets
by working with school staff, volunteers, parents, children and residents in promoting the
schemes - Consulting and communicating with a wide variety of stakeholders including members of
the public and Council member engagement to build support for the School Streets scheme - Monitor and evaluate existing School Streets schemes to determine the efficacy of the project
including regular site visits to ensure schemes are being effectively implemented and evaluate
whether further support and training are needed as well as evaluation of potential new schemes - Recruitment and support of School Streets volunteers to help with the day to day operations
- Identification and resolution of issues arising through the implementation of School
Streets schemes - Supporting the Council in the implementation of sustainable travel initiatives including
supporting the Sheffield STARS School Engagement to run campaigns and activities that will help
them in becoming STARS accredited - Prepare and present a detailed termly report
- Ensuring Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed at all times in respect to
the delivery of activities and events within schools and the wider community
This is a 30-hour per week working on a fixed term contract starting in April 2024 to 31st
March 2025 with the option to extend. This role will be based in Sheffield and the post holder
will be expected to regularly travel to schools on a regular basis. By its very nature this
role will involve traveling and working outside in all weather conditions and occasional
overnight stays away from home, weekend, early and late working may be required.
Employment is conditional and subject to employment checks and an Enhanced DBS check.
