Job Summary:

The Scientist will engage in basic and translational studies developing and studying small and large animal models of acute lung injury and cardiac arrest. The successful applicant will work on Dr. Al-Subu’s research projects to investigate the use of invasive and noninvasive monitoring to assess the effectiveness of resuscitation after cardiac arrest in swine cardiac arrest models. The Al-Subu lab collaborates closely with other basic and translational science laboratories in cardiovascular pathophysiology, bioengineering, and neuroimaging. This work done in the lab will provide opportunities for projects led by the applicant, as well as collaborative team science work in which the applicant will contribute to collaborations with other research groups.

Specific duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, help performing pulmonary function testing, managing noninvasive monitoring, performing lab test (i.e. blood gas analysis), and complex data collection in a large animal models. Previous experience with any or all of these skills are highly attractive in applicants; please be sure to highlight any of these specific skills that you possess in your application for greater consideration.

The successful applicant will be responsible for designing experiments, interpreting findings in light of contemporary literature, and writing up results for presentations, publications, and grant proposals. This highly motivated candidate will work independently, maintain a positive attitude, possess superior organization skills, and pay close attention to detail. The scientist will also be expected to supervise student research associated with parent grant projects.

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
MD or PhD required. Degree related to biology preferred.

Qualifications:

– Minimum of 2 years of experience performing and coordinating small and/or large animal scientific research required.
– Experience with animal and biosafety protocol writing and review required.
– Experience in managing activities of animal model research projects preferred.
– Experience with performing immune assays including Western Blot, reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), ELISA; multicolor flow cytometry is preferred.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% – 100%
This position requires the majority of the work to be performed in-person and onsite. However, data analysis, grant writing, protocol review and maintenance may be done remotely.

Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
