Can you help us investigate the rare plants of Scotland? We have an exciting opportunity to
recruit a part-time project officer to join our expanding team of conservationists. If you love
plants and being outdoors, this is for you!
Job Title: Scotland Conservation Officer
Location: Ideally Scotland, although other areas will be considered (the
locations of the species we’re considering are predominantly around the north-western regions
of Scotland, so ideally the candidate will be situated there).
Salary: £30,000 per annum (pro-rata)
Hours: Flexible, but roughly 1 day a week (equating to £6,000 pa)
Duration: 1 year, with potential to extend into 2025 and beyond.
This is a seasonal role, which will largely require field surveys to be completed during the
summer and autumn months. We currently have limited information about the species we conserve
in Scotland, and are therefore looking to recruit someone to gather this information, and
investigate requirements for conservation work. There will be an opportunity for this role to
expand depending on the successful candidates availability and dedication.
About the role:
This exciting role will essentially identify and monitor sites which support Marsh Clubmoss,
Field Gentian, Forked Spleenwort and other species under our conservation programmes. There is
potentially some scope for conservation management within this role, which will be determined
by the results of the aforementioned work. As the project develops we are hoping to expand this
to other species.
You’ll be working alongside our small, friendly staff team who work remotely within the UK. The
role will largely entail field work, but this will be combined with home-working to liaise with
landowners/managers and compile reports. With this in mind, the post holder would preferably be
based within the north-western regions of Scotland, where the majority of Marsh Clubmoss,
Forked Spleenwort and Field Gentian are located.
Although initially 1 day per week we are hoping that as the project and funding grows this may
increase, and there is scope for the right candidate to develop this into a more full-time role
if this is of interest.
