Main Function of the Job
To prepare and present food to a high standard, including:
- the provision of all meals (breakfast, lunch and evening meal, and tea/coffee breaks etc) for students, conference guests, staff and others.
- ensuring high standards of food quality, service and hygiene are maintained at all times.
Main Duties
- To prepare food for students, guests and, staff. (As well as catering for the college body in term time this also includes catering for college functions, conferences, weddings and other special programmes or events, including cooking for anyone who is staying at the college).
- To maintain and help oversee cooking and cleaning regimes (daily, weekly, periodically etc) for all areas of the kitchen in line with directions given by the Head Chef.
- To work to high standards of food preparation, quality and service ensuring that food is prepared and served with due care and attention at all times.
- To carry out all required activities related to food preparation, cooking, food service, clearance, wash-up, kitchen cleaning and cleaning of equipment including supervising, if available, students/volunteers participating in these activities.
- To encourage and support students and volunteers who assist in the kitchen and dining room.
- To maintain high standards of excellence in cleaning and hygiene, especially in the kitchen and wash-up areas. To adhere to food safety and hygiene standards in all food preparation and storage areas and health and safety standards in all day to day work and especially in the use of equipment. To complete relevant documents, including maintaining accurate records of refrigeration/chiller, raw and cooked food temperatures.
- To control and monitor food stocks and kitchen cleaning materials, including checking of deliveries of food for quality and temperature (frozen and chilled food).
- To ensure the correct use and care of all kitchen equipment, and bring to the attention of the Head Chef any concerns regarding the condition of the equipment.
- As required, to order stock if it is needed.
- To liaise with the relevant staff, students, conference leaders or third parties, with the approval of the Head Chef, regarding cooking for events.
- As required, to carry out the opening, setting up and closure of the kitchen.
- To help any member of kitchen staff as required, and to carry out any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities of the post.
General Duties
- As a member of the wider college community, to participate in college meetings, activities and groups (where possible)
Working conditions
- Located at All Nations Christian College, Easneye, Ware, Hertfordshire, SG12 8LX
- This position will involve shift work and weekend working (on a rota).
- Holiday entitlement is pro-rated on the basis of a full-time entitlement of 30 days holiday per annum, plus bank holidays.
- You will be entitled to free lunch at the College on your working days.
- This position will involve standing 100% of the time
