About Us

Bats are remarkable and essential to our environment. The Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) is the
foremost non-governmental organisation dedicated to bat conservation and habitat protection.
Our mission is to secure bats’ future in a changing world.

The National Bat Helpline, administered by BCT on behalf of Natural England, delivers support
to those who have questions or concerns about bats, answering over 13,000 enquiries in a
typical year.

We are now looking for several Seasonal Bat Advisors to join our National Bat Helpline Team on
a full-time basis for a five month fixed-term contract, working 37.5 hours per week.

The Benefits

  • Salary of £25,642 per annum (pro rata)
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Eye Care Vouchers
  • Flex Time Policy
  • Cycle Scheme

This is a brilliant opportunity for a highly organised bat enthusiast or early career
conservationist with experience managing a busy workload to join our dedicated organisation.

In this rewarding role, you’ll help us to make a tangible difference by providing support and
advice that promotes conservation and helps us realise our vision of a world rich in wildlife
where bats and people thrive together.

What’s more, you’ll have the opportunity to undertake extensive training, get involved in an
array of varied projects and programmes and gain technical expertise whilst working with some
of the most experienced bat volunteers in the UK!

The Role

As one of our Seasonal Bat Advisors, you will answer a wide range of bat conservation and
welfare queries over the phone and email as part of our free bat advice service.

You’ll be one of the first points of contact for enquiries, providing advice, resources and
information to the public, professionals and other interested parties and reassuring roost
owners who may be nervous about sharing their house with bats.

Supporting those experiencing issues associated with a roost or who need to carry out minor
works, you’ll organise roost visits and produce statutory advice on how to take bats into
consideration.

Additionally, you will:

  • Assist with various projects and programmes
  • Advise people about rabies risk and bat handling
  • Update databases, spreadsheets and online maps
  • Liaise with bat care volunteers across the UK

About You

To be considered as a Seasonal Bat Advisor, you will need:

  • Experience of working in an office or very busy environment with a large, varied workload
  • Knowledge of wildlife conservation issues
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and telephone skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook

The closing date for this role is the 4th March 2024.
