Seasonal Conservation Educator

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  

Spend your summer making a difference in the great outdoors with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department! We’re seeking a Seasonal Conservation Educator to help deliver engaging, hands-on outreach and education at the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp (WMCC) near Dubois, Wyoming.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in inspiring the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts by supporting two youth camps, three family camps, and three Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) camps. You’ll connect with participants of all ages, sharing your knowledge of wildlife, fisheries, habitat management, ecology, hunting, fishing, and essential outdoor recreation skills.

This is a unique opportunity to live and work in a beautiful natural setting while building meaningful connections and promoting conservation across Wyoming. Housing is provided with individual rooms for the duration of employment at WMCC, and meals are included during program sessions.

• Deliver high-quality, engaging programming.
• Execute routine clean-up and set up of program areas.
• Lead safe, engaging, and fun camp experiences for all ages.
• Inform and educate the public about conservation and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s mission.
• Maintain education materials.
• Share a passion and knowledge of Wyoming’s abundant wildlife, recreational opportunities, and rich natural history.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

• Preference will be given to those working towards or have a bachelor’s degree in education, wildlife/fisheries biology, biological sciences, environmental science, ecology, outdoor recreation, or a related field.
• Preference will be given to those who have experience working with multiple age groups in the same learning environment.
• Preference will be given to those who have experience developing and presenting formal and informal programs.
• Preference will be given to those who have experience safely supervising participants in an outdoor environment.
• Preference will be given to those who have knowledge of a variety of outdoor skills, including: fishing, orienteering, backpacking, archery, canoeing, kayaking, and firearm safety.
• Preference will be given to those with current Wilderness First Aid/Responder and/or CPR certification.

**Must have a valid driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE: 

• Must be able to work well independently with minimal supervision, as well as work well with others on a team.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with all ages and backgrounds.
• Must have the ability to work outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions.
• Must be able to responsibly maintain direct supervision of participants while involved with activities such as fishing, canoeing, archery, air rifle, long hikes, outdoor science investigations, and team builders.
• Knowledge of regional ecology and wildlife.
• Experience with archery, fishing, navigation, first aid, canoeing, and other outdoor recreation skills.
• Must have excellent communication skills, strong organizational and leadership skills, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a passion for working with camp participants of all ages.
• Must demonstrate teaching skills and the ability to implement creative “hands-on” teaching methods.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Must stay in provided housing at the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp while camps are in session.
• Requires flexible schedule, including travel and long days (14+ hours), working evenings and weekends.
• Position requires passing a background check and completing a basic Adult + Child CPR and Basic First Aid certification (provided by WGFD).

NOTES: 

• FLSA: Non-exempt
• Successful applicants for employment must pass a background check prior to appointment.
• Tentative starting date is May 26, 2026.
• Tentative ending date is August 11, 2026.
• Uniform and other necessary gear will be provided when in the field.
• If more than 40 hours are worked in a week, the excess hours will be paid at the time-and-a-half overtime rate.
