Are you passionate about conservation and waders? 

We are seeking two dedicated individuals to join our team as
Seasonal Curlew Conservation Officers. These roles provide a unique opportunity to contribute
to curlew conservation efforts while learning from experienced fieldworkers. The positions are
freelance, running from the mid April to early July.

Farmers are vital to curlew conservation. An understanding of farming and agricultural
operations would be an advantage. Respect for farmers and land managers is essential.

We are looking for energetic, self-motivated, and well-organised individuals with a passion for
waders.

Requirements:

  • No prior experience necessary; training is provided.
  • Commitment and enthusiasm are essential.
  • Understanding of working with farmers and volunteers is an advantage.
  • Aptitude for practical work is beneficial.

We expect you to

  • Be self-employed/freelance with appropriate business insurance. ^
  • Have a car and be able to drive to travel freely around the area. Mileage can be claimed at
    45p/mile.
  • Provide your own laptop and smart phone. However, field equipment (binoculars and thermal scope) will be provided for duration of contract.
  • Live within travelling distance of the field area or find temporary accommodation.
    (Accommodation and subsistence is not provided.)

^ Don’t worry if you are not currently registered as self-employed. There is plenty of guidance
online about registering and it is quick and easy to do so on the HMRC site. Before starting in
the role, we will ask you for evidence of your public liability (£2M) and professional
indemnity insurance (£5M), again this should not be difficult to acquire.
