The AmeriCorps Individual Placement positions (ages 18-35) are based at various locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Under the direct guidance of a project supervisor, the Specialist will assist with a variety of projects to expand the capacity and reach of the partner agency. See specific position descriptions for greater detail before applying. Up to 15-20% of the service term is dedicated to technical and personal skills training.

Term dates and schedule:

  • Service Term: 900 hour AmeriCorps positions; May – November, 2024
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, typical. Some evenings or weekends may be required.

Locations: 

  • Cass Lake, MN
  • St. Croix Falls, WI

Housing is not provided by the Corps. Member must secure their own housing near service location.

Positions: 

Invasive Plant Management Specialist (St. Croix Falls, WI)
Dates: May-November, 2024

  • The AmeriCorps Invasive Plant Management Specialists placed with the National Park Service is based at the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway headquarters in St. Croix Falls, WI, located approximately 1-hour northeast of the Minneapolis, St. Paul metro area. Primary duties will support high park priority invasive plant management and vegetation restoration practices in the Great Lakes Invasive Plant Management Team Network of National Parks.  Specialists will assist with manual and chemical plant control, native plant seeding/planting, equipment maintenance, data collection, data QAQC, report writing, identification of native and nonnative plants, outreach and education, and management planning.  Specialists must be able to safely operate power and hand tools, chainsaws, small equipment, and trucks pulling trailers. 

Archaeology & Heritage Program Specialist (Cass Lake, MN)
Dates: May – November, 2024

  • The Archaeology & Heritage Program Specialist serves alongside U.S. Forest Service, Chippewa National Forest cultural resource professionals. The position is focused to help develop the Specialist’s professional skill sets while providing expertise and valuable contributions to the host site. The Specialist will learn hands-on skills in the work of managing cultural resources and public outreach. The Specialist will assist with the Heritage Program (including archaeology and historic preservation). 

Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude and strong commitment to service and community work
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats
  • Creative thinking and problem solving
  • College coursework and/or degree in a relevant field

Requirements:

  • 18-35 years old.
  • Must be a US Citizen, US National or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the US.
  • Must pass the National Sex Offender Public Registry and criminal history check. “Pass” is defined as no positive hits on the NSOPR and no history of violent offenses on the criminal history check.
  • Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving record (no major moving violations or DUI’s in the past five years).
