Position: Summer Interpretive Ranger
Location: Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, Ashland, Oregon
Duration: April 15, 2026 – August 1, 2026
Hours: 15-25 hours per week. This position regularly requires weekend availability. Evening and holiday hours may also be required.
Compensation: $20/hour + mileage reimbursement (federal rate)
Reports To: Executive Director and Program Coordinator

Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is the only national monument designated specifically for its biodiversity, situated at the convergence of three mountain ranges. It is one of the most ecologically remarkable landscapes in the Pacific Northwest. Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is looking for two seasonal interpretive rangers to lead programs, engage visitors, and help bring the Monument to life for our community. Rangers lead weekly Monument Days nature camps for children every Wednesday, interpretive hikes for adults, kayak tours on Hyatt Lake, evening campfire programs, and more. Whether you are early in your conservation career or an experienced educator looking for meaningful seasonal work, we want to hear from you.

• Lead meaningful programs in an extraordinary place: Guide interpretive hikes, lead kayak tours on Hyatt Lake, run weekly nature camps for kids, and host evening campfire and dark skies programs. This is hands-on, public-facing work in one of the most ecologically remarkable landscapes in the Pacific Northwest.
• Work with a collaborative team: Partner with BLM Monument staff, conservation professionals, and community partners to deliver programs that connect people to the Monument.
• Housing Assistance: Seasonal camping or housing may be available for selected candidates.

Responsibilities:

• Lead a weekly, daylong Nature Camp Monument Days for up to 15 children every Wednesday, June through July.
• Plan and guide interpretive hikes for groups of up to 20 adults.
• Lead interpretive kayak tours at Hyatt Lake.
• Staff the CSNM Visitor Information Center, offering respectful and accurate visitor engagement.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked Visitor Information Center.
• Support Friends’ events and programs, including Hike & Learns and outreach booths.
• Lead or assist with evening campfire programs at Hyatt Lake Campground.
• Support dark skies programming, including night hikes and stargazing events.
• Register and serve as an official BLM volunteer for the Monument.

Qualifications:

• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Experience leading outdoor education programs for adults and youth.
• Knowledge of local ecology and cultural resources.
• Attention to detail, professionalism, and customer service skills.
• Wilderness First Aid & CPR certification required by June 15, 2026. Potential training opportunities available
• Must have reliable transportation to CSNM.
• Familiarity with CSNM is a plus.
• Gear & Equipment: Rangers will be provided with a uniform, educational materials, and field equipment. Applicants should be prepared for outdoor conditions and must provide appropriate clothing and footwear for all conditions.

Work Environment:

This position requires extended standing and walking, sometimes over rough, steep terrain, in varying weather conditions, including moderate smoke exposure.
