Position description

LESS (Low Emission Steel Standard) is a standard for assessing, classifying, and labeling low-emission steel to showcase decarbonization progress and support steel users’ sustainability goals. Launched by the German Steel Association in April 2024, LESS is now being established in Europe as an independent entity under Belgian law, with initial certifications planned in 2025.

From 1 May 2025 LESS aisbl is looking for a Secretary General based in Brussels.

As Secretary General you will lead the organization in advancing low-emission steel production. You will drive strategy, business development, operations, and advocacy to position LESS as Europe’s leading standard for low-emission steel certification.

Key Responsibilities:

• Shape and execute LESS’s strategic vision, driving its mission and growth;
• Expand membership across the steel value chain and boost LESS’s recognition in procurement;
• Manage operations, budget, and resources for sustainable development;
• Build partnerships with industry, government, and standardization bodies;
• Oversee certification processes and enhance the LESS standard;
• Lead communication efforts to raise awareness and grow influence.

 

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in business, environmental science, engineering, or related field;
• 5+ years in a leadership role within industry or commerce;
• Proven success in developing organizations and certifications;
• Strong grasp of sustainability, procurement, and standards;
• Excellent leadership and communication skills; fluent in English.

Compensation:
