Job summary

We’re looking for a dedicated Section Manager to join our Division of Cancer team. Your role will encompass a broad range of tasks focusing on Grant, HR, and Finance management. Although you will primarily work at our Hammersmith Campus, occasional travel to other locations may be necessary.

Duties and responsibilities

As the Section Manager, you’ll be a central figure in our Division, acting as the first point of contact for various operational matters including those linked to the Joint Research Office, HR, and Finance. Your key tasks will include:

  • Financial Management: Oversee and monitor the financial health of the Division. You’ll work closely with the Divisional and Departmental Management Teams to ensure effective financial planning and management.
  • Research Support: Assist our academic colleagues in applying for grants and ensure smooth project delivery by managing post-award processes and working closely with the Joint Research Office.
  • Human Resources: Streamline HR processes by supporting recruitment initiatives and monitoring contract renewals within the Division.
  • Administrative Support: Offer additional administrative assistance to designated groups as needed.

Essential requirements

  • A degree or relevant vocational qualification, or equivalent experience
  • Experience of managing research project budgets, financial reporting and providing sound financial management advice to budget holders
  • Knowledge of grant costing and full economic costing in a University environment
  • A high standard of numeracy, as well as the ability to interpret financial information and communicate it to academic and research staff
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to quickly establish strong working relationships with a wide range of people and at all levels
  • Ability to manage own workload, prioritise and work under pressure
